Bara is one of the most impressive dead cities. The site spreads out on nearly 3 km. Although not inhabited before the 4th century the city expanded rapidly in the 5th and 6th centuries. It eventually included five churches, which can still be recognized. Architectural style was royal, which is a sign of wealth and prosperity of the city. When crusaders reached Bara in 1098 there was still a bishop in the city. Crusaders dominated Bara till 1148
