Taybet Al-Imam Holy Martyrs Church

Taybet al Imam is a town located 15 km north of Hama, 2 km to the west of Aleppo Hama highway.

Between 1985 and 1987, one of the largest church mosaic pavement in Syria (600 sq m) was unearthed by the General Direction of Archaeology amd Museums and restored with the help of the Italian Government and the Franciscan Institute of Italy.

The moscaic was completed in 442 AD  under Domnos, Hama's Bishop with the help of several benefactors such as the priests Epiphanius and valens, the beleivers Alexandra, Theodosio, Thia and Catheriata and their families.

One of the important scenes represents the arrival to the church of the relics of the Martyrs carried in a stone reliquary by two mules.

Another important scene is the one located on the eastern part of the mosaic. It represents the Paradise promised by God to the believers, the place of eternal peace symbolized by the two cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, as it is described in the book of Revelations. Inscriptions in Greek mention the four rivers of Paradises Ghion, Phison, Eurphrates and Tigris. In the centre is figured the lamb under a lamp, which enlightens the place.
